Statement of  the International Relations Committee, CC

on the Draft Resolution  of  PACE

    

On behalf of Iraqi communists and their friends, we express our support and solidarity with the appeals against the draft resolution entitled “The need for international condemnation of the crimes of totalitarian communist regimes” that is presented to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE). This  resolution is clearly inspired by the most extreme anti-communist positions of the cold war period.

 

This resolution, if passed, represents a real threat to

fundamental democratic and civil rights and paves the way for McCarthyist-type political practices and discrimination against communists and progressives in Europe.  The campaign launched against the Communist party of Bohemia and Moravia is a concrete and relevant example of what Communists elsewhere in Europe would be subjected to.

  

We subscribe to the appeal denouncing and rejecting this resolution and call for a broad mobilization of communist, progressive and democratic forces and parties and their representatives in the European Parliament against this dangerous move.
